Pool Safety

Inspection and licensing of campus pools and spas is a responsibility of OS&CH to ensure sanitary conditions are maintained for all pool users. Harmful bacteria can reside in poorly maintained water. It is critical to ensure that the water quality is suitable for swimming to prevent infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat, and to prevent other waterborne illnesses. Chemical levels in the water can also affect those prone to skin reactions.

University properties that use wells as the source of drinking water are sampled on a periodic basis to assure safe water quality. Water quality is regulated based on the EPA’s Drinking Water standards.

For questions on swimming pool and drinking water safety, please contact the OS&CH department at 7-1142.
