In March of 2011, the EPA announced new national emission standards for the control of hazardous air pollutants from new and existing industrial, commercial, and institutional boilers and process heaters at major sources of hazardous air pollutants. This rule is known as the Major Source Boiler MACT (maximum achievable control technology). All boilers on Central, North, South, and Medical campuses at the University of Michigan are subject to this rule.
