Fire Safety Service
Ian Steinman - Associate Director

The Fire Safety Services Bureau is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable fire safety regulations. This responsibility is met through inspections, fire drills, building plan reviews, consultations and fire safety awareness programs.
Your worst enemy during a fire is smoke. If you are caught in smoke, get down on the floor and crawl to safety. Close doors behind you as you escape, and use stairs, NEVER elevators.
Simple fire safety tips to follow are:
- Make sure there is a working smoke detector near your sleeping quarters.
- Learn the location of fire exits and alarm boxes near you.
- Sound the fire alarm if you see smoke or detect a burning odor.
- Do not re-enter a building until it has been declared safe for reentry.
