As part of the University’s Illicit Discharge Elimination Program (IDEP), dye testing may be conducted to determine if there are any improper connections between the sanitary sewer and the storm water drainage system. Dye testing is also conducted for new construction and renovations to ensure the sanitary and storm water piping are properly routed. If a cross section is discovered, it is eliminated.

To perform any dye testing at the University of Michigan, the Storm Water System Dye Testing Guidelines must be followed. Any questions concerning dye testing or the dye testing guideline can be directed to OSEH Environmental and Hazardous Materials Management at 936-1920. OSEH EM must be contacted at least 24 hours prior to any dye testing.
